Update on Teresa Steele from Bruce Steele

On Friday, December 2, 2016, Teresa was released from the Little Company of Mary Rehab Facility in San Pedro. They were everything we had heard about the Facility. Everyone was extremely professional and caring. And the food was exceptional. Teresa had at least 3 or 4 therapy sessions (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy) every day, in addition to doctors, registered nurses, nurse trainees, and assistants monitoring her physical condition, treating her injuries and addressing her various needs due to her injuries. While she was exhausted at the end of the day, it has helped her to make gains in her recovery. However, she is still miles away from where she was as a very healthy woman before she was hit. It will be a long recovery process but Teresa has the will to do it and we are optimistic about the future.

Now that Teresa is home it is a real challenge to do all the things around the house that she did for us, as well as outside and taking care of her current needs. I always knew that being a caregiver was challenging but it has really been a reality that is overwhelming. Teresa has a number of Doctor appointments over the next couple of weeks, and we have hired a home health care aide starting Friday to come in to help. Teresa is receiving in home OT and PT this week and after the new year she will be going to outpatient therapy at one of the hospitals that have expertise in treating vision problems. It will likely be the Little Company Rehab Facility in San Pedro. She is still in a lot of pain from her fractures and concomitant muscle/ligament/tendon injuries and her double vision still has not subsided. We keep working on everything.
